Last night, Melton Council elected Cr Sophie Ramsey as the next Mayor for our city.
Cr Ramsey will be supported by Cr Nola Dunn who was elected to serve as Deputy Mayor.
Cr Ramsey was excited to have been nominated and she has promised to visit local schools and community organisations within the municipality. Both candidates were elected unopposed and we wish them all the very best.
Watts ward Councillor Lara Carli presented a question without notice at this months ordinary meeting of council. Cr Carli sought current status on the 3 month deferral on the application to demolish the building. Planning and Environment manager for the City of Melton Bob Baggio explained that time for the hotel owners had lapsed and the item was due to return to council next month.
The building is considered to be of local historical significance and subject to a heritage overlay. It’s expected that Councillors will vote against any demolition in order to retain the historical value of the property.
Recently the Diggers Rest Fire Brigade appointed Paul Cameron to start and run the Diggers Rest CFA facebook page.
The facebook page will provide an opportunity to promote the efforts of the brigade and help to keep our community informed during this upcoming fire season.
We are very fortunate to have a passionate group of volunteers who attend to about 150 events and call outs each year.

Bloomdale Family Fun Day will take place this Saturday, 4 October 2014, with appearances by AFL stars Joe Daniher and Brent Stanton, live entertainment, mini golf, a Bob Loader jumping castle, and footy clinics hosted by the Diggers Rest Burras.
As well as the talent in attendance, Mayor Cr Bob Turner will be on hand to officially open the new park. Following a ribbon cutting ceremony, adults and children can delight in the musical offerings of Michael Jackson, Elton John and Lady Gaga performed by Club Kenny Trio on centre stage, as well as a special dance performance by Diggers Rest Primary School students.
There will be face painting, fresh coffee and carnival popcorn and fairy floss stands, as well as Bloomdale homebuilder stalls and a marquee where Bloomdale staff will answer questions about the vibrant master planned estate.
After working up a sweat on the newly installed play equipment, or after a hit-out on the custom built table tennis table, families can assist in the fundraising efforts of Diggers Rest Primary School, Diggers Rest 1st Scouts and The Lions Club by purchasing hotdogs, burgers, doughnuts and drinks.
Bloomdale developer Investa Land has sponsored the Bloomdale Family Fun Day and according to General Manager – Vic, Paul O’Brien, the event is intended as a great day out for all the community to enjoy.
