According to reports this morning, it would seem that fire has destroyed one of Diggers Rest’s oldest buildings. ‘Athenry’ or better known to locals as ‘the castle’ was recently recognised of local heritage significance. The building was originally constructed in 1906 and greatly altered and extended in the 1920’s – 30’s.
