Burnt hotel dodges the wrecking ball

application

Residents wanting to retain the burnt out remains of the Diggers Rest Hotel should be celebrating this morning following the withdrawal of the application to demolish the hotel by the applicant. The planning application to demolish the remaining structure was lodged in December 2008 and a decision was expected at last nights ordinary meeting of Council.

According to Council documentation, the application received only 3 objections which included the Diggers Rest Residents Association. A petition in the form of 64 joint letters from residents supporting the demolition was presented to Council from the Cambridge, Coburn & Watts Residents Association.

The future of the hotel remains unknown.
