New Maps on Display

It was pleasing to see locals (which included members of the Diggers Rest Directions Group and representation from the newly formed Taxed-Out Group) eager to learn more about what was proposed for the township attend the “Proposed Changes to the Urban Growth Boundary Information Night” held at Diggers Rest, last night.

The organisers (Diggers Rest Residents Association) did a great job of setting out maps on tables in an exhibition style setting and allowing visitors the opportunity to discuss future plans with the Melton Shire Council planning manager Mr. Luke Shannon or individually amongst themselves over a cup of tea or coffee.

Many residents still remain confused about the “Proposed Changes to the Urban Growth Boundary” due to what seems to be a “lack of public consultation” by the authorities.  Residents however, felt that the meeting last night fell short of addressing their real fears with Diggers Rest becoming “factory fodder” and concerns about the containment of urban sprawl.

Residents still have an opportunity to make a submission to the Growth Areas Authority, submissions must be received no later than July 17th 2009.
