In 2006, Council received funding through the then Department of Victorian Communities (now Department of Planning and Community Development) to implement the Small Township Project across the Melton Shire areas of Diggers Rest, Rockbank, Toolern Vale and Exford.
This entailed community consultation (speakouts) and the development of recommendations for each of the areas. Key areas identified for Diggers Rest where Pride of place (entrance signage and landscaping, historical significance), Social events and Public Art.
$15,000.00 will be provided to Diggers Rest to design, develop and implement a community project in response to the identified key recommendations. Projects are to be community based and must be completed by May 2009.
Council’s Community Development worker will facilitate the Diggers Rest Network Forum to be the catalyst to lead this project, gaining vital support from the residents of Diggers Rest and in particular, those residents who participated in the original consultations, in brainstroming and implementing this community project.
