As part of the 2020 Stan Payne Reserve upgrade, the Caroline Chisholm Gold Shelter is in the process of being demolished.
The shelter commemorated the efforts of Caroline Chisholm, who provided many shelters for diggers and their families along the track to the Goldfields in the 1850’s.
Funding for the shelter which was officially opened on October 8, 2001 was made available through the State Government and was one of the main attractions celebrating 150 years of gold in Victoria.
The shelter will be replaced with a similar structure, combining a modern toilet facility.
