Construction will soon be underway on the new $8.2m Diggers Rest Pavilion which is set to replace the ageing infrastructure at the Diggers Rest Recreation Reserve.
The new complex promises to complement the needs of our growing and diverse community, especially given the exponential population growth we’ve seen in recent times.
As part of the planning phase, Melton City Council undertook extensive consultation with stakeholders and the wider community. Although space designated for community use remains the same as the existing community hall, the new community room will be fitted with an operable wall. This is expected to help increase the overall capacity available for community use.
For many years, it has been extremely difficult gaining access to community facilities in Diggers Rest. They’re either locked up or off-limits to the community. It’s anticipated that the new Pavilion will provide the community with a range of opportunities and could for example, help to deliver some exciting initiatives like an indoor market and multicultural event.
According to Council, the replacement of the tennis and sports social rooms are part of the overall provisions for community spaces. These spaces can also be hired by other groups at times when they are not allocated.
