Growing pains for township

The continued rapid development of Diggers Rest in recent times has seen calls from residents for more infrastructure to support the growing population.

Eleven (11) candidates have nominated to contest the two (2) vacancies in Watts Ward during the 2020 Melton City Council Elections.

Although the campaign has only just begun, so far not much has been forthcoming in the way of election material.

This is most probably due to COVID-19 restrictions.

All candidates have been offered free web space on this platform to help deliver their message directly to our community.

Hopefully, in the interests of all residents they will take up the offer.

The Diggers Rest Precinct Structure Plan provides for many high order projects and infrastructure.

Despite the growing number of households, there appears to be a shortfall in commercial growth.

Many new residents have established in Diggers Rest with the belief that a major supermarket was soon to be constructed.

Whilst childcare and medical facilities are set to dominate our commercial landscape in the interim, families need the certainty of employment opportunities and local services consistent with a growing community.

Is infrastructure and service delivery keeping pace with the current level of development?
