Level crossing to go by 2026

Local member for Sunbury Josh Bull (MP) announced yesterday that the level crossing on the Old Calder Highway at Diggers Rest would be removed by 2026.

Exponential growth at Diggers Rest in recent times has seen the need for improved infrastructure for the township.

Since the electrification of the Metro rail line between Watergardens and Sunbury, the level crossing at Diggers Rest has gradually become problematic.

In 2021, Melton City Council Watts Ward Councillor Lara Carli described the crossing as “one of the most dangerous intersections with the level crossing in the municipality”.

The announcement is welcomed news for many residents and commuters which will ultimately help to reduce future congestion around the station, whilst addressing the needs of our growing community.
