Park plans for dogs

As part of the 2021/22 Municipal Budget for Melton, Council have included $20,000 to establish an internal working group for external specialist advice relating to the development of a Dog Park Strategy.

The initiative was derived through a Notice of Motion which was accepted at the 2020 December meeting of Council.

Dog Parks now play a significant role within the development of new communities, especially estates like Diggers Rest where overall lot sizes are becoming smaller with limited backyard space.

The need for quality well-planned outdoor spaces for dog owners to safely socialise and exercise with their pets has become a vital component to healthy living.

It’s anticipated the Strategy will adopt guidelines around the provision, delivery and maintenance of Dog Parks now and into the future.

Hopefully the working group will include a comprehensive audit of existing parks and a consultation phase within the development process.
