A request for street lighting along Plumpton Road has been declined by Melton City Council, with the location failing to meet the criteria for a high-priority upgrade under the Rural Interface Road Upgrade Strategy (RIGARUS).
The strategy focuses on improving lighting at rural intersections with a known history of accidents where lighting could be a contributing factor. However, the section of Plumpton Road in question is not at an intersection and has recorded only two accidents in the past five years. Both incidents occurred before the road’s speed limit was reduced from 100 km/h to 80 km/h three years ago.
Given this context, Council advised the location does not qualify as a high-priority site for lighting upgrades.
Council has acknowledged community feedback and noted that it will be kept on record for future consideration.
