Support for market grows

The VCAT decision against the proposed caravan park has most certainly got tongues wagging about the future of the land next to the Diggers Rest Hotel.

Following growing interest for a market in Diggers Rest, a portion of the site has been secured for the purpose of developing a Makers & Growers Market, subject to Council approval.

In 2010 the “Diggers Market” was a successful pilot program which demonstrated a real desire for local produce sales within the area.

Plans to establish a privately managed market (social enterprise) were undertaken in 2012. However, due to a series of failed attempts at locating a suitable site, the venture was shelved until a location could be found.

Today, there is strong demand for a quality makers and growers market in Diggers Rest, especially within close proximity to the station.

Expressions of interest are currently being sought.
